Vinyl Monkey ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Vinyl Monkey mobile application (the "App"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who This Policy Applies To

This policy covers all users of the Vinyl Monkey Android app, including:

Guest users – users who choose "Continue as Guest" without creating an account.
Registered users – users who create an account via email, Google, or Apple sign-in.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account we collect:

Email address
Display name and username (optional)
Profile photo URL (optional)
Bio and location (optional, entered by you)
Favourite genres and artists (optional, entered by you)
Sign-in method (email, Google, or Apple)

Guest accounts use anonymous authentication and collect no personal identifiers.

2.2 Collection Data

For each vinyl record you add, we store information you provide, including:

Title, artist, year, label, catalogue number, format, country, genre
Barcode and Discogs release ID (when scanned or imported)
Ownership status, purchase price and date, seller/store name
Condition grading notes and history
Personal notes, ratings, and storage location details
Play history and play counts
Estimated value and price-alert targets
Cover art images you attach

2.3 Usage and App Settings

Dashboard widget configuration
Notification preferences (spin reminders, price alerts)
Privacy settings (profile and collection visibility)
Integration preferences (Discogs, Spotify, etc.)

2.4 Subscription Information

When you subscribe to Vinyl Monkey Premium we record your subscription status (trial, active, cancelled, expired), plan type (monthly or annual), and renewal dates. Payment processing is handled entirely by the Google Play Store; we never see or store your card details.

3. How We Use Your Information

To provide and sync your vinyl collection across devices
To authenticate you and secure your account
To display your profile and collection to other users, subject to your privacy settings
To send trial-expiry and spin-reminder notifications (only if you enable them)
To manage your subscription entitlement
To allow you to import and export your collection data

We do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising.

4. Local Storage

The App stores data locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This includes your collection, playlists, smart collections, app settings, and cached third-party API responses. Local data is scoped to your user ID so multiple users on the same device cannot access each other's data.

Guest users' data is stored locally only; nothing is uploaded to our servers.

5. Cloud Storage (Supabase)

For registered users, your collection and profile data are synchronised to our database hosted on Supabase (a PostgreSQL service operated by Supabase Inc., USA). Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Row-level security policies ensure you can only access your own data.

6. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy.

7. Device Permissions

Permission	Why it is needed
Camera	Scanning barcodes and photographing album covers
Storage / Photos	Selecting or saving cover art images
Notifications	Sending spin reminders and trial-expiry alerts (only if you enable them)
Internet	Cloud sync and third-party API lookups
Vibration	Haptic feedback for UI interactions

You can revoke Camera, Storage, and Notification permissions at any time in your device Settings. Revoking them disables the relevant features but does not affect your stored data.

8. Data Retention

Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
Collection data: Retained until you delete individual records or your account.
Subscription records: Retained for a reasonable period after expiry to handle disputes and restore purchases.
Guest data: Stored locally only; deleted when you uninstall the App or clear app data.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: Export your full collection as a JSON file via Settings → Backup & Export.
Correction: Edit any profile or collection data directly in the App.
Deletion: Delete your account from Settings → Account. This permanently removes your profile and collection from our servers.
Portability: Use the export feature to obtain a machine-readable copy of your data.

10. Children's Privacy

Vinyl Monkey is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
